Course Overview
Due to the continuously changing and challenging operating environment, Business Continuity Management (BCM) is becoming more and more important to build organisational resilience and sustainability. The training course will focus on the role BCM plays in building resilient organisations, the role and responsibilities of the different stakeholders and the full Business Continuity Management lifecycle.
Business Continuity Management (BCM) has become an essential management practice in today’s world. Amongst other elements, a successful BCM programme includes the development and testing of well-defined and structured business continuity strategies and associated plans. Properly thought out, documented, implemented and tested business continuity strategies and plans will facilitate the response to, and recovery from, unforeseen disasters or emergencies as effectively as possible.
The purpose of this training course will be to provide guidance in alignment with international best practice and standards, namely: ISO 22301 and the Good Practice guidelines of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI).
Business continuity should not be viewed in isolation and links to the following response plans should also be considered:

Training Objectives
This is an intermediate-level BCM training course whereby participants will acquire an understanding of BCM fundamentals and given an opportunity to practise and implement an actual risk assessment, business impact analysis, business continuity strategy and plan under a realistic learning environment.

DAY 1: Introduction to BCM
- Introduction to ISO22301 Standard
- Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle
- BCM Fundamentals
- Risk Analysis and Review
- Business Impact Analysis
- Business Continuity Strategy
- Plan Development
DAY 2: Implementing Effective Risk Management
- Resources and methodologies to implement The Risk Management Plan
- Ensuring Risk Management becomes part of significant decision-making
- What are the likely barriers to implementation (risk culture)
- Risk reporting and the limitations of various risk reporting tools & methodologies
- Assess the respective merits of both quantitative risk modelling and qualitative reporting
- Align your risk reporting processes with other strategically important management activities, such as reputation management. (learn from recent cases of failure)
DAY 3: Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement of the Framework
- Key risk indicators (KRI´s)
- Continuous improvements, running your own team-based risk workshops
- Collate risk and control information from multiple sources into a central risk register or inventory of risk information system
- Controls register or inventory of controls. (The “Five Ws”)
- Understand feedback provided to you by those you communicate with and take on board “lessons learnt”
DAY 4: Solving the Problem: Managing the Crisis or Emergency
- Seeking cause and effect to solve the problem, not to attribute blame or responsibility
- Creating and running a crisis/emergency command centre
- Elements of risk management: prevention, response, containment, and recovery
- Integrating business continuity and crisis operations
- Information gathering and situational awareness
- Operational rhythm, routines, and information management
DAY 5: Ethical Factors in Crisis and Emergency Leadership
- Caring for subordinates and their families
- The leader's self-care
- Responsibilities to authorities, the public and/or victims
- Managing and leveraging the media
- After-action review and lessons learned processes
- Preparing for the next crisis or emergency
Certificates
- On successful completion of this training course, GLOMACS Certificate will be awarded to the delegates
- Continuing Professional Education credits (CPE) : In accordance with the standards of the National Registry of CPE Sponsor, one CPE credit is granted per 50 minutes of attendance
